The Regroup | Playing Forward in Today’s NHL

The Coaches Site Regroup Kelvin Cech Ice Hockey Coach Tips and Drills offensive defensemen Golden Knights Minnesota wild Quotes Nashville Predators Stanley Cup Washington Capitals Barry Trotz Getting Better NHL Draft

It’s a new month here at The Coaches Site and that means we’ve got a new theme.

Forwards.

The game has undergone a renaissance in the past few years when it comes to puck possession and playing the game with speed and urgency. Never before have coaches done as much in practice to encourage offense. It makes sense, because we spent the early 2000’s choking every drop of offense out of the game by working on our defensive zone coverage every day.

No more. Defense is boring. Offense is exciting. It takes five players to play offense, but it’s the forwards in the offensive zone who are responsible for making plays, moving the puck, and ultimately crashing the net.

Good job getting this far, why not take the season one step further? Let’s do this!
