Bill Peters, Head Coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, is here to tell you that the theory floating around that faceoffs are overrated is…overrated.

For Peters, faceoffs matter.

“A faceoff is your team’s first 50/50 battle of the shift. So you know if your team is engaged emotionally by how they execute off draws.”

  • Spacial awareness, skilled passing, speed, hockey IQ. All of it comes together if you have the initiative and the opportunity to create plays and make smart follow-up decisions. You may stretch the opposing D, outwit the forecheckers and by doing so new space opens up and you give your teammates the chance to come up open for a scoring chance.
