In Coaching Hockey, Drills by CoachThemLeave a Comment

This drill puts the defending team in a tough position, as the in-to-out direction will test timing and speed matching when angling off the opponent. This small area drill will also force the forwards to be creative on the attack, if they want to get a chance on net.

Drill Description

  • 2 vs 2, where offensive team needs to circle around their own net and attack from the half wall
  • Defending team must skate inside both circles before angling the offence

Key Points

  • Quick feet, good puck protection
  • Defence comes in deep and then angles play off to the boards
  • D, don’t let the forwards cut to the middle. Use stick to block off lane and potential pass
