Backwards crossovers are a very important skill to learn, and when used correctly they can be very useful. That said, when used incorrectly, they can tie up a defensive player’s legs like a pretzel and leave them vulnerable to be beat.
This drill is meant to practice backwards skating without crossovers. Focus on creating speed from C-cuts and keep your player’s feet as quiet as possible.
- Players skate backwards using c-cuts to red line
- C-cut shuffle to boards and hit with stick
- At far blue line, pivot and skate forwards hard to goal line
- Run drill there and back
- No crossovers
- Keep body position towards starting point while skating backwards
