CoachThem Hockey Drill of the Week: C-cut squish skating

In Coaching Hockey, Drills by CoachThemLeave a Comment

Backwards crossovers are a very important skill to learn, and when used correctly they can be very useful. That said, when used incorrectly, they can tie up a defensive player’s legs like a pretzel and leave them vulnerable to be beat.

This drill is meant to practice backwards skating without crossovers. Focus on creating speed from C-cuts and keep your player’s feet as quiet as possible.

Drill Description

  • Players skate backwards using c-cuts to red line
  • C-cut shuffle to boards and hit with stick
  • At far blue line, pivot and skate forwards hard to goal line
  • Run drill there and back

Key Points

  • No crossovers
  • Keep body position towards starting point while skating backwards
