This small area game is a great way to reinforce the importance of creating open space when you’re away from the puck, plus it’s also a fun way to end practice! Adjust the size of ‘gate’ to make the drill easier or more difficult for your players.

Drill Description

  • Set up three “goals” in the zone
  • Coach dumps puck in zone for a 3vs3
  • This is a game where:
    • 1 point: player skates the puck through the goal
    • 2 points: team makes a successful tape-to-tape pass through the goal

Key Points

  • Keep score and make it fun
  • Dump new puck in play if exits zone
  • Cycle through sets of three to keep it at a high pace
