NHL Players on Coaches

We spend a lot of time at The Coaches Site working with the game’s most experienced and progressive coaches to deliver insight directly from the pro ranks. So to prepare for last year’s TeamSnap Hockey Coaches Conference we asked ourselves:

What do players expect from their coaches?

A player’s ability to grasp what you’re teaching dictates both their on and off-ice performance and ultimately your success as a coach. So last year we held a pro player’s panel at our 6th conference in Vancouver, held in our home base, the state of the art Fortius Sport & Health.

Fortius Sport & Health is an integrated athlete development centre strengthened by philanthropy and focused on optimizing athlete performance for life. In addition to being our home, Fortius is also home to HockeySTRONG, an off-season training program for some high calibre NHL players who call Vancouver home in the offseason.

Last year we asked the HockeySTRONG staff Molly O’Brien & Adam Nugent-Hopkins for help in holding a pro player’s panel, and we had a fantastic discussion about what players expect and appreciate from their coaches. We had an excellent dialogue and everyone came away with great feedback that gave our audience plenty to chew on.

Participating players included:

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Edmonton Oilers

Brenden Dillon

San Jose Sharks

Tanner Glass

New York Rangers

What did the guys have to say about coaches throughout their careers?
