Something funny always happens when there’s big hockey news in a major Canadian market.
The opinions start to emerge.
“I heard he’s a real hard-ass.”
“I heard he’s great with the young guys.”
“I heard he takes three creams and six sugars in his coffee.”
The truth is that the only people who have a true sense for the coaching style Travis Green brings to the table are the players he’s coached in Utica since the start of the 2013 season. Our own Aaron Wilbur shared his opinion a couple days ago when the hiring was made official, telling Ryan Pinder of the Fan 960 that Green’s confidence and influence on the grassroots level of the organization were qualities the Canucks didn’t want to lose.
Now, the hiring of a coach is normally met with unbridled optimism, and for good measure. However, it still usually coincides with the demise of another coach, in this case Willie Desjardins. And if I can have a moment to spout my opinion, it’s that I highly doubt Willie Desjardins was coaching Brock Boeser to fire laser beam-strength blind backhand passes directly onto Jordan Eberle’s tape four feet in front of Richard Bachman in the last game of the regular season. Just my two cents.
These are the types of youthful plays that Travis Green was brought in to work with. But don’t take our opinion for it, check out Travis’s sit-down with us at our 2016 Coaches Conference and judge for yourself.
Good luck Coach Green!
