We’ve been working on this curriculum for a while and we’re proud to finally be able to unveil our U11 Competitive Minor Hockey Program!
This curriculum is designed to be a 20 week guiding document for a competitive U11 program during a hockey season. The drills provide an overview of skills as well as basic tactics that are required to play at the U11 level. The focus is on skill development and encouraging the players to learn the game through physical exploration and small area games. The overall goal of the program is to provide a coaching staff the tools necessary to effectively train a team over the course of a season.
The program is sectioned in 6 phases to maximize the teams training periodization over the course of the season. The team needs to ramp things up to the height of competition while learning and growing together as a group. Each practice and corresponding drills are placed into the period of the program to help move along the team’s seasonal arc.
Check out the U11 Competitive Minor Hockey Program landing page for all 40 practices, details on practice design, and implementation strategies. Please note this curriculum is not meant to be the be-all and end-all of coaching. It’s purpose is to be a resource for those who need support or are looking for inspiration to include in their own practice.
The curriculum’s practice phases are as follows:
- 1 – Season Prep
- 2 – Start of League Play
- 3 – Refine Roles & Responsibilities
- 4 – Competition/Active Rest
- 5 – Reinforce Habits
- 6 – Peak of Competition

Great job. You guys are great. Everything in hockey starts with the basics. I’m happy. I’d love to see a U-9 program in the future.
As I filled out the latest survey, this is exactly what I was hoping TCS would be able to submit..
Can I have my survey back? I want to change my answers!
Well done Derek and TCS.
