It is said that good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity. Few believe that more than St. Louis Blues head coach Craig Berube, who discussed what communication means to him and why it’s so valuable in his coaching style. This must-see presentation was hosted by Troy Ward, amateur scout with the Vancouver Canucks.

DEVELOPING ELITE DEFENCEMEN ON THE OFFENSIVE BLUELINE

Typically there are two types of defensemen: defensive defensemen and offensive defencemen. Daniel Bochner, assistant coach & player development coach with SKA Saint Petersburg, spoke about various ways coaches can help their players develop the skills necessary to succeed on the offensive blueline within the modern game of hockey. O from the D is always a plus.

SURFING AND DEFENDING OFF THE PUCK

Another presentation focused on defencemen was courtesy of Dave Starman, player development director of the Long Beach Lightning, who spoke about how defencemen create early gaps, defend off the puck and create offence all at the same time. The trifecta.
