There’s a terrifying word for coaches starting their season right at the end of the minor hockey years: millennial. Fortunately for the attendees of this year’s #2018HCC, Ottawa Senators Assistant Coach Marc Crawford brought along his two millennial children. Both perspectives, right? Katie Crawford, a volleyball player at the University of British Columbia, efficiently outlined what young athletes are looking for from their coaches, including collaborative and collective environments.
“These athletes want the power over their individual learning process.”
For Marc’s son Dylan, the anxiety created by coaches in the past simply doesn’t work anymore. Ironic, right? In the past, team leaders served as a buffer for overly critical coaches, but these days that’s simply an unnecessary barrier.
“A lot of the leaders were able to sort through the fluff of my bombastic outrage.”
