McFarland is an Assistant coach in the NHL having spent two season with the Florida Panthers and one year with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Currently he is with the Seattle Kraken franchise. He spent 5 seasons coaching in the OHL, including 3 as Head Coach of the Kingston Frontenacs, and won Gold as Head Coach of Team Canada at the 2017 U-18 Hilinka Gretzky Cup. As a player, McFarland won an OHL Championship and Memorial Cup with Kitchener in 2003. He was named University Male Citizen of the Year twice while attending would Acadia University, and would have the Paul McFarland Award established in his honour. McFarland spoke at last year’s TeamSnap Hockey Coaches Conference.
